Counterfeit Flea and Tick Preventatives
The West Arvada Dog Park!
Be careful when you buy flea and tick preventatives from retail stores, websites and phone order numbers. Counterfeit products are showing up, which could be potentially dangerous.
The ones seen most often right now are Frontline and Advantage, which are monthly topical pesticides. These counterfeit products are imported illegally and are then repackaged in boxes that are very similar to the real ones. If the labeling is the wrong product or dosage, it could be harmful to your pet. Merial Ltd. and Bayer Corp., the companies that manufacture these products, suggest purchasing your products directly from your vet, since most vets order these products directly from the companies.
There are some things to look for on the box and the foil packets that help tell the real product from the counterfeit one. Two websites to check out are the Frontline website and the EPA website. These websites show pictures of what will be described below. If you do find that you have bought a counterfeit product, contact the EPA, and take the product back to where you purchased it.

The West Arvada Dog Park is open! This off-leash park provides a safe, fenced-in place for you and your dog to play and socialize with other dogs and different people. It is a known fact that a socialized dog is a happy dog. They are less likely to be aggressive or exhibit unwanted behavior. It features double gates for safety, puppy/shy dog play areas, and ample parking. The park is located east of the Arvada Reservoir on 64th Avenue, accessible to people from Arvada, Golden, Wheat Ridge, and other front range communities.
Future plans include expanding the area, inc
luding more benches and a shade structure and a dog accessible drinking fountain. Fundraising efforts are still in effect to make these things happen. Donations are tax-deductible. Checks can be made out to Jeffco Open Space Foundation (JOSF). You can also buy part of the park in honor or memory of a family pet. Entry-way brick pavers range from $40 to $90. A fencepost is $125 and a bag dispenser is $300. Also, a local Arvada craftsman has made a necklace to benefit the park. These are $25 and can be purchased anytime during our business hours. A silent auction was held on February 3rd, and they now have enough money for Phase 1!
The Friends of the West Arvada Dog Park (a citizen-based advisory committee) is always looking for new volunteers. They meet monthly and could use any help in the three main parts – Design and Construction, Marketing and Public Relations, and Fundraising. Let us know if you would like more information regarding this. Also, check their official website for updates.
