List of Products NOT Affected by the Recall March 30, 2007 - Hill's Pet Nutrition voluntarily recalled Prescription Diet m/d Feline Dry Food. Hill's m/d dry food contains a chemical called melamine in it, which is frequently used in plastic production and as a fertilizer. Melamine was isolated from wheat gluten in m/d; canned food is not affected since it contains no wheat gluten. Since the wheat gluten that Hill's used was also supplied to Menu Foods, Inc. (the company involved in other recalls), all previously recalled pet foods containing wheat gluten also contain melamine. It is unclear how much of a role melamine has played in recent pet deaths, since the substance was previously believed to only affect animals in large doses. If you have a cat who was eating prescription diet m/d dry food, Hill's will pay $100.00 for diagnostic tests to ensure your cat's health. Please call us if you have additional questions, or go to the Hill's website at www.hillspet.com for more information. March 21, 2007 - After numerous reported cases of cat and dog kidney failure and at least 10 animal deaths, a major pet food ingredient distributor has recalled millions of cans and foil pouches of food. The affected foods were sold in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico between December 3, 2006 and March 6 of this year. This product recall concerns only foods that are "cuts and gravy" style foods, which consist of meat chunks in a sauce. We have included a list of affected Hill's products below.
