Paige B. Garnett,
D.V.M. My History I'm a Colorado native! I was born in Denver and grew up (with animals!) in Boulder. My father is a retired Professor of Chemical Engineering and my mother has worked as a chemist, so my interest in science started early. I graduated from Boulder High School and went to Colorado College and the University of Colorado as an undergraduate. I graduated from college and taught fourth and fifth grades in elementary schools in Colorado and Nebraska as my husband and I moved frequently for several years. I even directed a day care center in Tacoma, Washington for a year! All the while, I questioned my decision not to study veterinary medicine. Finally, in his usually direct way, my father announced that he was tired of listening to me complain and asked me to either pursue veterinary medicine or stop complaining about it! I set out to complete an additional 2 1/2 years of science classes, math and some English courses at the University of Colorado before applying to The Veterinary Medicine program at Colorado State University. My husband and I moved to Fort Collins where we lived until I completed Veterinary School (my tenth year of college!) in 1982. My Family
In a field beside our house, six llamas graze and watch. Four are ours and two belong to Dr. Lisa Barlow (Centennial Valley Animal Hospital, in Louisville). The therapy they provide - quiet walks on weekends - is invaluable. Ask me about them! Two birds - a cockatiel named Sunny and a Macaw named Benson - add their voices to the din. Finally, somewhere in this lively picture, my husband Walt can be found. High school sweethearts, we've been married for 30 years and still enjoy each other's company.
