Tubby
"Raise your hand if you think my dog has two eyes", I say when Tubby and I visit school classrooms, and almost everyone does!  As you can see, though, he has only his right eye.  When he arrived at Care Animal Hospital, after an attack by a very big dog, his left eye was badly injured, the nerves in his back were damaged and he had lost skin and hair on one side from neglect.  He was a mess!

The staff at Care Animal Hospital fell in love with Tubby and after several surgeries, several weeks of intensive care and acupuncture treatments (see Dr. Mich's article on pain management) he was ready for a home.   But, who was going to want a one-eyed Pekinese with a back that would need more surgery and feet that didn't work quite right?

Reasoning that I had only one step in my house (and knowing they could get to me through my kids) the staff began asking my family members to hold Tubby whenever possible.  And it worked - we all fell in love and now he lives with us and our other creatures.  He is a delightful companion - huggable but not pushy, and eager to go anywhere with anyone.  He had another back surgery, and every now and then he gets acupuncture to ease his pain, but he enjoys life immensely and we enjoy him!
